Rare Black Architectural Box Purse with Slide Opening Top

This is a rare black leather bag with alligator grain by a quality American maker, Lewis. It is an excellent example of American design, utilizing a sliding top portion which slides up and down the strap to open and close the purse. There is a small handle on the top for use in sliding the top up and down. The bag is more narrow at its 7" base and gradually flares to 9 1/2" at the top opening. The top which raises up and down is 10" at its widest point.

The interior is large and is lined with a purple silky satin.

The Lewis signature is stamped in gold on the upper outer exterior (hidden by the top which slides over the signature).

Handle drop is 8 1/2 - 9" and can be worn over the shoulder.

Excellent vintage condition. No condition problems on the exterior. The interior, although good, does show normal use.
